Thief of “sound”

Passionate about music since her early childhood, Clara was about to walk through the doors of the recording studio. Although she had written and made several demos of her creations, this was the first time she had dared to take the plunge and officially record her compositions.

The studio was full. This intimidated Clara. Jimmy, the manager, introduced her to the team. Two singers were finishing recording one of their songs. As they left the sound booth, they greeted Clara in a very friendly and familiar manner. In the music world, everyone was close to one another. You quickly made acquaintances. Julia, a very pretty but very superficial woman, was the girlfriend of Paolo, one of the technicians.

Clara was supposed to record an entire album. About ten tracks. She had written every song. Jimmy was there to advise her, to help her finalize her project. In principle, she accompanied herself on her guitar. But she wasn't against orchestrating some of the pieces. Jimmy asked her to play him her demos. Together, they chose the tracks that would appear on the album. Clara was happy with her day. She left after scheduling the recording dates. As she left the studio, she dropped one of her scores without realizing it. A little later, Julia picked up the sheet of music. She tried to catch up with Clara, but she was already far away. She decided to keep it, to give it to her another time.

Upon arriving home, Clara rushed to call her mother, who lived on the other side of the island. She told her about the wonderful day she had just had. Her mother, once a singer in a gospel group, was truly proud of her daughter. Despite everything, she had made him promise not to quit her job as a schoolteacher, which she had been doing for two years. Clara was aware that she certainly wouldn't be able to make a living from her passion. She had a good head on her shoulders. She was a very meticulous and orderly young woman.

The next day, Clara seemed dreamy during the teachers' meeting. She was in a hurry to get home to file all the songs she would soon be singing in the studio. She did this when she got home. Surprised, she couldn't find the sheet music for song number four on the upcoming album. She immediately retrieved a copy she had in one of her drawers.

The recordings were completed in less than two weeks. Clara had mastered her subject so well that she had done almost all the songs in one take, which amazed Jimmy. Satisfied with her work, Clara only had to wait for the album to be mastered. Jimmy sent her the finished tracks as they were released for her approval. Jimmy was known for having a large network, allowing her to distribute the music of the artists who frequented his studio.

That day, Clara, who loved listening to the radio in her car, was very surprised, even shocked. She thought she recognized one of her songs, sung by another woman. None of hers had been broadcast yet. Clara immediately called Jimmy to ask him what was going on. He was as surprised as she was. He promised to sort this out quickly. He questioned his entire team. Paolo explained that Julia had told him she had composed the song herself. Although surprised, he found it so beautiful that he recorded it. Julia had expressly asked him to play it directly after recording. It was magnificent, of course, but sung by Julia, it had nothing to do with the original.

Jimmy summoned Julia to confront her. She insisted, swearing it was her own song and that Clara had surely stolen it from the studio. Julia shouted that she would have to prove it was hers. Before leaving, slamming the door.

The song was starting to get more and more views on social media. Julia didn't hesitate to claim it as her own.

Clara was disgusted. Although she explained that the song was about her late father, Julia loudly proclaimed that she had been inspired by a friend's experience, since her own father was still very much alive. Clara no longer really wanted to pursue music. That evening, her mother told her to never give up, that she had a lot of talent and couldn't waste it. Jimmy, trying to comfort her, reminded her that she had recorded nine other magnificent songs. But for Clara, this song was a tribute to the man she admired above all else.

That weekend, Clara, feeling nostalgic, did some organizing of her sheet music. In an old box, she found a pile of envelopes still sealed. They contained mock-ups. Her mother had advised her to send herself the mock-ups of her songs, unopened. This constituted proof of their creation in the eyes of the law. One of them lit up Clara. She had drawn hearts on it, to remind herself of the love she felt for her father.

Within a few weeks, Clara's album was a real hit! She didn't pursue Julia. However, she forced her to apologize, in a video, and to post it on all social media.
